The Sanctuary: Understanding God's Plan of Salvation
The Old Testament sanctuary is one of the most profound revelations of God's plan to save humanity. Every detail of this sacred structure points to Jesus Christ and His ministry on our behalf.
**The Courtyard: Sacrifice and Cleansing**
As you entered the courtyard, the first thing you encountered was the altar of burnt offering. This is where the sacrificial lamb was slain, representing Christ's death on the cross for our sins. "Behold the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!" (John 1:29)
Next was the laver, filled with water for cleansing. This represents baptism and the washing away of our sins through Christ's blood.
**The Holy Place: Daily Ministry**
Inside the sanctuary were three pieces of furniture:
1. The table of showbread - representing Christ as the Bread of Life
2. The golden candlestick - representing Christ as the Light of the World
3. The altar of incense - representing our prayers ascending to God through Christ's mediation
Every day, the priests ministered in the Holy Place, just as Christ ministers for us daily in the heavenly sanctuary.
**The Most Holy Place: The Ark and Mercy Seat**
Once a year, on the Day of Atonement, the high priest entered the Most Holy Place. Inside was the Ark of the Covenant, containing the Ten Commandments. Above it was the mercy seat, where God's presence dwelt.
This represents Christ's final ministry in the heavenly sanctuary, which began in 1844 according to the prophecy of Daniel 8:14. He is now conducting the investigative judgment, examining the records of all who have professed faith in Him.
**Living in the Day of Atonement**
We are living in the antitypical Day of Atonement. This is a time for deep heart searching, confession of sin, and putting away all evil. It's a time to make sure our names are retained in the Book of Life.
The sanctuary reveals that salvation is not just a one-time event, but an ongoing process. Christ died for us (altar), cleanses us (laver), intercedes for us (Holy Place), and judges for us (Most Holy Place).
Are you taking advantage of Christ's ministry in the heavenly sanctuary? Are you confessing your sins and claiming His cleansing blood? The Day of Atonement will soon end, and probation will close. Make sure you're ready!
